Research on National and Local Responses to the Ebola Outbreak
in Sierra Leone

Project Description

Following the devastating 2014 West African Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) outbreak in Sierra Leone, IBIS contracted NBI to conduct a lessons learned exercise focused on the governance of the response. More specifically, the assessment examined the effectiveness of coordination and local response mechanisms through detailed case studies – emphasizing the benefits of building on traditional and existing structures at local levels in responding to emergencies. Findings from the assessment formed the basis for a joint learning event at district level, ensuring that there was cross learning and action taken from recommendations to strengthen the response mechanisms to future emergency situations.
